Wayland’s Yard in Worcester, UK, opened in 2016 after its founder got injured on the rugby pitch and turned to his next passion: serving speciality coffee. Now bringing in 60-70% of its revenue from brunch sales (“as well as still serving really banging speciality coffee”), Wayland’s Yard added Mr Yum to its 50-table venue to increase Average Transaction Value (ATV).

“Mr Yum has helped revolutionise our business in loads of ways, to be honest,” Chief Operating Officer, Joe, said. “The QR code is the biggest thing we use, so people can order straight from their table on their phones and don’t have to download an app.

“In theory, all 50 of our tables could order at the same time. The kitchen would have a fit if that happened, but they physically could.

“Mr Yum has helped us drive our ATV around 15% and we can see that simply comparing what people order at the till and what people order from the table.”

Wayland’s Yard Head of Food, Charlie, says Mr Yum lets guests “see the menu, they can easily check out without having to speak to a member of staff or get up to go pay at the till.”

“Customer service hasn’t changed at all, we still have loads of customer-facing time. We bring the food over to them, when we check in with them, and whenever someone has questions; the customer still feels like they’re receiving the same service.

“Right off the bat, Mr Yum have been amazing to work with. Their onboarding was great and they’ve been really supportive throughout. Every little thing, whether we needed it at 8pm or first thing in the morning, they’d be there.

“I think the risk of not going with Mr Yum is potentially just falling behind and not offering what other people are offering.”

“Every hospitality business, whether they like it or not, needs to embrace tech at the moment,” Joe said. “I feel like you’re going to behind if you don’t start using tech. Customers are starting to expect to be able to order on their phones from their table and as a business we need to drive as high an ATV as possible and that’s what the QR code does.

“Having multiple avenues to order from can only be positive.”
